WOODLAND — A former Harper Junior High School teacher accused of sexual battery made his second court appearance Tuesday, and will be back before a judge later this month set a trial date.
The attorney for 40-year-old John Anthony O’Brien said he expects to receive further discovery from the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office that requires review before the trial date is set.
Yolo Superior Court Judge Daniel Maguire scheduled a trial-setting conference for 1:30 p.m. March 30.
O’Brien, a longtime science teacher at Harper, was arrested on the misdemeanor sexual battery charge in November after a 16-year-old former student reported to police that O’Brien had touched him inappropriately while visiting the boy’s residence.
O’Brien has pleaded not guilty to the allegations. He resigned from his teaching position in December.
