UC Davis police announced Wednesday they had arrested a student in connection with a break-in at the Tercero housing area earlier this week.
Justin Chiou, an 18-year-old freshman at UCD, was expected to be lodged at the Yolo County Jail on a single count of burglary, campus Police Chief Matt Carmichael said a day after his agency issued a crime alert about the incident.
Carmichael said Chiou is suspected of stealing the Potter Hall access card from a resident there and using it to enter an occupied room at the dormitory at about 12:30 a.m. Monday. The suspect fled after being discovered and confronted by residents.
“We’re still sorting out the details, but at this point he is in custody,” Carmichael said, crediting numerous tips that came in to police following a systemwide email alert was issued about the incident. “That was very helpful.”
