One person was injured Wednesday morning in a two-car collision near Madison involving a California Highway Patrol vehicle.
According to CHP reports, Officer Armando Ortega was responding “code 3″ — lights and sirens activated — to an incident in Woodland shortly before 10 a.m. As he descended the Interstate 505 overcrossing on eastbound Highway 16, a Toyota Corolla taking a freeway offramp pulled into the path of the officer, who was unable to avoid a collision.
The driver of the Toyota, 71-year-old David Kelloge of Rio Vista, told officers he had heard the siren before pulling into the intersection but did not know where it was coming from, and didn’t see the CHP vehicle with its lights activated until it was too late, according to the CHP report.
Kelloge was transported to Kaiser Vacaville with complaint-of-pain injuries, while Ortega was unhurt, according to the CHP.
