Fire crews responded to a storage unit fire this morning at UC Davis’ Orchard Park apartment complex.
Nathan Trauernicht, chief of the city and UCD fire departments, said the 5:20 a.m. fire appears to have been started accidentally by a squatter who was staying in the storage locker south of Russell Boulevard.
Davis fire crews assisted first-responding UCD in fighting the blaze, which caused an estimated $20,000 in damage, Trauernicht said. No injuries were reported.
