A new judge has been assigned to hear the trial of a Davis woman accused of causing her young daughter’s death last fall.

Because of the anticipated length of Aquelin Crystal Talamantes’ trial, the case was reassigned from Yolo Superior Court Judge David Reed to Judge Stephen Mock, who typically presides over the court’s lengthier felony trials.

Talamantes will appear in Mock’s courtroom at 8:30 a.m. Friday for arraignment on murder and child-assault charges.

She is accused of drowning her daughter Tatiana Garcia, 5, on Sept. 26 in the Glide Drive home she shared with her sister, then driving to a relative’s apartment in Sacramento with the girl’s body in the trunk of her car.

Talamantes’ attorney, Supervising Deputy Public Defender Sally Fredericksen, said at a recent court hearing that her client intends to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
