A Woodland man was arrested on evading and other charges Sunday night, the result of a vehicle pursuit that involved three law-enforcement agencies before it came to an end.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Jose Angel Amezcua, refused to pull over when a Woodland patrol officer attempted to stop him for a vehicle-code violation at Court and Fourth streets around 9:45 p.m., according to Sgt. Dallas Hyde.

“The driver then made an illegal left turn onto East Street from Court Street,” Hyde said. “The vehicle then fled while being pursued by police for approximately 17 minutes through city streets with speeds reaching 60 mph.”

Yolo County sheriff’s deputies assisted in the chase by placing a spike strip at Pioneer Avenue and East Gibson Road, which disabled three of the vehicle’s tires, Hyde said. But Amezcua allegedly drove on, continuing north on Highway 113 and east on Main Street to County Road 102, where California Highway Patrol officers stopped the car with pursuit intervention technique.

Amezcua was arrested and booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of felony evading, driving on a suspended license and drug possession, as well as a probation violation, Hyde said. No injuries were reported.
