Flooding and explosion sounds coming from a South Davis apartment last week turned out to be the result of ill-advised laundry habits, Davis police said.
According to Lt. Art Camacho, someone inside the Owendale Mutual Housing Association apartment on Albany Avenue had hung laundry to dry on the indoor fire sprinkler system, causing the sprinklers to go off and flood several apartments.
The “explosion” heard by neighbors was actually the sound of the sprinkler system activating, Camacho added.
Residents of the apartment had left by the time emergency personnel arrived on scene, and the resulting lack of information regarding the mishap prompted police to summon the Yolo County Bomb Squad to conduct a further scene investigation.
