The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 5 that involved a wrong-way driver.
Lt. Ray Jimenez said the solo collision occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday on Cache Creek Bridge in the town of Yolo, where the still-unidentified driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lane when the car crashed and caught fire.
First responders arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Jimenez said. Coroner’s officials still have not made a positive identification and did not specify whether the driver was a man or a woman.
Jimenez said a disabled big-rig also was discovered near the crash scene, and officers were investigating whether it struck the car following the initial crash.
