A man is facing robbery charges after allegedly threatening a convenience-store clerk early Wednesday morning, Davis police said.

Police were summoned shortly before 3 a.m. to the Loop Neighborhood Market, 1010 Olive Drive, where the clerk reported that a man had entered the store and shoplifted several items, according to Lt. Art Camacho.

The clerk confronted the man, who allegedly replied, “Don’t do this — you don’t want to die,” then left the store.

“Responding officers conducted an investigation and, subsequently, believed the suspect to be a local man whom they were familiar with,” Camacho said. “Officers responded to a location where the suspect is known to hang out, located him and arrested him for being drunk in public without incident.”

Camacho said the man, identified as 23-year-old Cairo Jones, was identified as the suspect in the convenience-store incident. He was booked into the Yolo County Jail on the added robbery charge.
