Three Yolo County sheriff’s deputies received a standing ovation during a recent Yolo County Board of Supervisors meeting while being recognized for their outstanding efforts at a homicide scene.
On the morning of Sept. 29, Deputies Jack Schubert, Miles Torres and Erin Forster responded to a residence on County Road 95 following the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, all three deputies, working together, immediately began attempting to save victim Dustin Dougherty’s life.
When ambulance personnel arrived on scene, the paramedics observed a large amount of blood and found Torres holding the victim’s head to maintain his airway, Schubert conducting chest compressions and Forster using her entire body weight to compress bleeding wounds.

When the lifesaving efforts were determined to be futile, the deputies immediately returned to their duty as law enforcement officers. Information was obtained from a witness, the scene was secured and suspect information was broadcast to additional responding deputies and allied agencies, ultimately leading to the capture of the suspect, Heder Migoya.
Schubert, Torres and Forster were recognized as “Difference Makers” for going above and beyond the call of duty and putting the life of another person first. Sheriff Ed Prieto, who attended the presentation, noted that he was proud of the job these deputies did during this difficult situation.
Migoya, 33, has been ordered to stand trial on homicide and weapon charges. He pleaded not guilty at an arraignment hearing Tuesday and is due back in Yolo Superior Court on Nov. 28 for setting of a trial date.
