Multiple fire crews were on the scene of a third-alarm structure fire in West Davis on Monday night.
The blaze was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. at a residence in the 2300 block of Harding Terrace, where firefighters arrived to discover a column of smoke coming from the home’s attic area, Davis fire Capt. Roland Pussich said.
A family was home when the fire started but had evacuated the home by the time crews responded to the scene.
Several firefighters climbed onto the top of the house to attack the blaze, during which a lower section of the roof caved in. No one was injured during that incident, though one firefighter was later treated for shoulder pain he sustained while working the fire, Pussich said.
The fire’s third-alarm status triggered a widespread response, bringing crews from all three Davis fire stations, plus the UC Davis, Dixon, Woodland and West Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene.
Pussich said the cause of the fire, which caused extensive damage to the home, remains under investigation.
