A Davis teen is recovering after being struck by a vehicle Friday morning in northeast Davis.
According to information from the Davis police and fire departments, the 17-year-old boy was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle on East Covell Boulevard near Wright Boulevard at about 7:45 a.m.
A fire crew arrived to find the teen sitting on the ground, and he reported that he was not injured, fire Capt. Roland Pussich said. Due to the amount of collision damage to the vehicle, however, firefighters began treating him at the scene.
“During the assessment, the patient started to complain about pain to his neck,” prompting his transport to the UC Davis Medical Center for further evaluation, Pussich said.
Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov said the driver, a 28-year-old Sacramento man who was traveling westbound on Covell, attempted to stop but was unable to avoid striking the cyclist. The incident remains under investigation.
