WOODLAND — A Sacramento man accused of vandalizing a woman’s car blocked by a crowd of Picnic Day partiers pleaded not guilty to the allegations Thursday in Yolo Superior Court.
Erick William Davies, 22, is charged with felony vandalism and inciting a riot, a misdemeanor, in connection with the April 22 incident on M Street.
Davies requested that a public defender to represent him during the court proceedings, which resume Aug. 16 with a preliminary hearing. He remains free on a $20,000 bail bond in the meantime.
Davies is accused of jumping on top of the woman’s car and stomping on it, causing $7,000 worth of damage, as she attempted to drive through a large crowd of people who reportedly were blocking traffic on M Street.
The woman told The Enterprise in an interview that when she honked her horn, about 20 to 30 people surrounded her car, rocked it back and forth and pounded on the windows. Video of the incident posted on social media showed one man, believed to be Davies, jumping on the vehicle’s hood.
That incident is unrelated to an earlier brawl on Russell Boulevard involving a Picnic Day crowd and several plain-clothed police officers. The five suspects arrested in connection with the fight go back to court July 27 for their preliminary hearing.
