The Davis Police Department is reporting a series of tire thefts in the South Davis area.

Last week, the agency took five reports of stolen tires, bringing the total to 11 over the past six months. Most victims discovered their vehicles propped up with paving stones or on cinder blocks, and one citizen reported a paving-stone theft as well.

In one case, a 1990s Dodge Durango or similar vehicle was seen in the area of one of the thefts. Another witness reported seeing a male wearing a gray hoodie and “do-rag.”

Some tips for curbing tire thefts:

* Park vehicles in garages or well-lit areas whenever possible.

* Set your alarm or anti-theft device, if you have one.

* Consider purchasing wheel locks to make lug nuts more difficult to remove.

* Turn wheels when parked, as a tire partially obscured by a wheel well is more difficult to remove.

If you see any suspicious activity, call the Davis Police Department’s non-emergency line at 530-747-5400. If possible, include a suspect vehicle’s license-plate number, description and direction of travel.
