A Woodland man faces evading and weapon charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit Monday night.
Sgt. Tom Davis said an officer was patrolling the area of North and First streets at about 10:30 p.m. when he encountered a vehicle associated with a missing-person report filed with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office. The driver fled when the officer initiated a vehicle stop.
“The suspect vehicle continued to evade the officer through city streets, making evasive turns and at high speeds,” Davis said in a news release. The chase ended at Court and Cleveland streets when the driver struck a curb, rendering his car inoperable.
Police detained the driver and a passenger on scene. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Frank Silvas, complained of pain and was transported to Woodland Memorial Hospital, while the passenger was interviewed and released.
A search of Silvas’ vehicle revealed ammunition for a .22-caliber firearm that Davis said was tossed from the vehicle during the pursuit and later recovered. As officers processed the scene, the subject of the missing-person report arrived and spoke to sheriff’s deputies.
Silvas, meanwhile, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of evading a peace officer, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and driving without a license, Davis said. He also was wanted by the state Department of Corrections on a no-bail parole hold.
