A crime victim’s attention to detail helped police nab a suspected burglar Friday night.

Sgt. Dan Powell said the burglary occurred the day before at the Avalon Apartments, 1617 Valdora St. in South Davis. The victim, who was home at the time, heard a noise coming from the front of the apartment and, upon investigation, spotted a man running from the residence and leaving in a vehicle.

The victim cut through the complex and was able to get the fleeing car’s description and license-plate number, as well as a description of the driver, Powell said. A patrol officer saw the suspect and vehicle Friday night on Chiles Road and identified the driver after making a traffic stop.

Police later served a search warrant at the suspect’s South Davis apartment — not far from the alleged crime scene — and recovered the clothing he allegedly wore during the burglary, Powell said. The property reported stolen, a television, was not recovered.

However, Powell said officers had enough evidence to arrest the suspect, 31-year-old Asef A. Albazirgan, on suspicion of residential burglary.
