Woodland police are searching for a man who committed an armed robbery while purporting to sell a cell phone to the victim.
Sgt. Ted Ruiz said the robbery occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot at 215 California St. The victim, a 23-year-old Sacramento resident, reported he had come to Woodland to buy a cell phone after arranging the deal on an online site.
“Upon meeting the suspect in the parking lot, the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded property from the victim,” Ruiz said. “The suspect forcibly took items from the victim’s hand and fled on foot. The victim followed the suspect for a short distance and was able to provide police with a direction of travel and evidence that would assist in identifying the suspect.”
A police K-9, Chase, searched the area where the suspect fled and found property belonging to both the victim and the suspect, Ruiz said.
Police also released a photo of the suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s with a medium build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at 530-666-2411.
