A Yolo County jury convicted a 37-year-old Woodland man this week of two counts of being in possession of a firearm and one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition, Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced.
Frank Rudolph Estrada faces up to six years and four months in state prison at his June 15 sentencing hearing before Yolo Superior Court Judge Timothy Fall.
Reisig said the case stemmed from a Feb. 14 warrant search of Estrada’s vehicle conducted by officers from the Yolo County Gang Task Force, who reported finding a 12-gauge shotgun, a .380-caliber handgun and ammunition.
Estrada had been convicted of felony second-degree burglary in 2004 and felony evading a peace officer in December 2016, making it unlawful for him to possess those items.
“We are thankful to the officers of the Yolo County Gang Task Force who worked hard on this case, which resulted in two guns being taken off the street and out of the possession of this convicted felon,” Reisig said in a news release. “Our office is dedicated to prosecuting this type of case to ensure the safety of the law-abiding citizens of Yolo County.”
