Davis police are warning the community about a suspicious man who tried to lure a 12-year-old boy into his van Friday evening near the Davis Little League park.
Officers were contacted at about 5:30 p.m. by the boy, who reported that he was walking alone in the area of H and East Eighth streets when a man driving a minivan repeatedly told the boy to get into his vehicle.
The boy refused and moved away from the suspect, who then drove off. The boy was able to return home safely. No suspect has been unidentified.
Police described the suspect as a middle-aged white male with a beard and a tattoo or similar mark under his right eye. His van was an older-model minivan with chipped, reddish-brown paint and appeared to have white paint underneath.
Anyone with information about this person is asked to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
Davis Little League President Kelly McCrory posted a statement on the league’s Facebook page, saying the league has requested extra police patrols around the baseball complex, and urging parents to “support each other by looking after one another’s kids and taking appropriate caution with kids going to and from games and practices.”
“I, and my fellow board members, am very thankful this young man is safe and sound, and we are very proud of him for how he protected himself while being able to provide useful information on the suspect,” McCrory wrote.
