A bicyclist was hospitalized with critical injuries Thursday after she was struck by a car on Second Street, according to the Davis Fire Department.
The crash occurred at about 4:50 p.m. as both the cyclist, believed to be in her 30s, and the motorist were traveling eastbound on Second Street near the Toad Hollow dog park, Division Chief Joe Tenney said.
According to Tenney, the bicyclist’s injuries were “potentially life-threatening,” although she was conscious when firefighters arrived on scene. Information about her condition was not immediately available this morning.
Tenney said emergency crews initially called for a medical helicopter to transport the cyclist to the UC Davis Medical Center, but she went by ambulance instead after the helicopter became delayed, Tenney said.
A portion of Second Street was shut down to traffic during the emergency response and investigation.
