Woodland police arrested a Pioneer High School student Friday morning for allegedly bringing an airsoft gun onto the school campus.
Sgt. Frank Ritter said officers were summoned to the East Gibson Road school at about 8 a.m. after receiving a report of a student seen with a handgun in his waistband. The student was detained while participating in his gym class.
“The handgun in question was located in the student’s backpack and was found to be an airsoft gun and not a firearm,” Ritter said, though noted that under state law it’s illegal to bring a BB, pellet or airsoft gun that is operated by forced air (CO2) or spring action onto a school campus.
Officers arrested the student and booked him into Yolo County Juvenile Hall, Ritter said.
