UC Davis police issued a crime alert Monday regarding a burglary at one of the university’s South Davis offices.

According to police, the burglary victim returned to his office at 1544 Newton Court at about 3:15 p.m. and confronted an unknown male suspect standing inside the office, holding a university-owned laptop computer.

“The victim asked the suspect what he was doing in his office. The suspect then handed the laptop back to the victim and stated, ‘Just let it go,’ ” the crime alert said.

Police described the man as being 35 to 40 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, wearing a black jacket and red shirt.

He left the office and was seen getting into the front passenger seat of a teal-colored Mini Cooper with a partial license plate of 7UT, driven by a black female with a baseball cap and her hair in pigtails. Afterward, the victim returned to his office and discovered his personal laptop missing.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Anyone with information about this or similar incidents is asked to call UCD police at 530-754-COPS (2677).
