Yolo County coroner’s officials have identified the Woodland teen who died in a crash during a police pursuit last Thursday as Matthew Gonzales, 16.
Gonzales was a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle driven by 18-year-old Trevor Wright of Woodland, who allegedly fled from police who were attempting to contact Gonzales regarding several outstanding felony arrest warrants.
Officers said Wright lost control of the car, which crashed into a parked vehicle and a tree. Gonzales later died at the UC Davis Medical Center, while a 17-year-old boy who was in the front seat suffered major injuries.
Wright allegedly fled the scene before being arrested in a nearby back yard. He was arraigned Monday on charges of vehicular manslaughter, evading police causing death and injury, hit-and-run and DUI.
