On Friday, a fire in duplex on the 100 block of Freeman Street in Woodland displaced two families and caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.
The Woodland Fire Department was dispatched around 4:30 p.m. The first arriving engine company reported heavy fire in the front unit and attic of a duplex. They suspected it had moved to the adjoining duplex and quickly upgraded the incident to a second alarm, summoning resources from the UC Davis Fire Department, Willow Oak Fire Protection District and the Yolo Fire Protection District.
“Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and were successful in keeping the fire to the unit that was well-involved on arrival, quickly confirming no one was inside,” Battalion Chief Eric Zane said.
The Red Cross was called to assist the residents who were displaced. No injuries were reported and the fire is still being investigated.
