A 12-year-old girl reported that a man tried to grab her as she walked home from school Wednesday in the Lake Alhambra Estates neighborhood, according to Davis police.
Lt. Tom Waltz said the girl was walking in the greenbelt area near Oceano Way and Arena Drive at about 3:45 p.m. when “a guy jumped out from behind a fence and grabbed her by the wrist.”
The girl was able to pull herself away, and they both ran in opposite directions, the suspect last seen headed southbound on Oceano Way, Waltz said. The girl hid in some bushes until her father picked her up, and she immediately reported the incident to him.
Officers searched the neighborhood upon receiving the report but were unable to find anyone matching the suspect’s description, Waltz said.
He described the man as being white and in his mid-20s, between 6 feet tall and 6-foot-4, with short black hair and brown or hazel eyes. He wore black clothing, gray shoes, gloves and a mask or bandanna that covered the lower half of his face.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
The Davis Joint Unified School District emailed a safety alert to parents in response to the incident and posted information on the district’s Facebook page, spokeswoman Maria Clayton said.
“We urge you to please talk to your child about safety when traveling to and from school,” the alert says.
