A Yolo County jury convicted a Solano County man last week of burglarizing two homes in Davis in July 2011.

Prosecutors alleged that Jimmy Medel, 45, dropped off his wife at her Davis workplace, then drove around town before burglarizing homes on Stanford Place and Baywood Lane on July 13 and 14, 2011, District Attorney Jeff Reisig said in a news release. Residents of both homes were on vacation at the time.

However, Medel reportedly was seen leaving both locations — first by a worker doing repairs on the Stanford Place home, and again by a neighbor on Baywood Lane who provided a description of Medel’s vehicle and the license-plate number to the police. He was arrested a short distance away from the Baywood Lane home.

Although Medel claimed he admitted to both burglaries to cover for his son, jurors found him guilty Thursday of both crimes, Reisig said. He was acquitted of a similar burglary that occurred the previous March.

Medel, who has two prior strikes on his criminal record, is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 21 before Yolo Superior Court Judge Stephen Mock.
