An American Canyon man who allegedly led California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle was arrested Friday with the help of a K-9, the CHP reported Tuesday.

Officer Bryan Konvalin said police first took notice of 26-year-old Ivan Maurice Pierce at about 3:20 p.m. Friday, when another driver called 911 to report he was driving a Dodge Caravan recklessly along eastbound Interstate 80 near Mace Boulevard in Davis. The Dodge, it turned out, had been reported stolen from San Francisco.

Police spotted the vehicle in West Sacramento, where Pierce allegedly tried to evade them near the Ikea store off Reed Avenue, then ditched the car as it was still moving on southbound Harbor Boulevard, Konvalin said. He fled on foot as the Dodge crashed into some bushes.

The foot pursuit continued to a nearby residential area. West Sacramento police arrived on scene, set up a perimeter and deployed a K-9, which apprehended Pierce as he hid in a shed, Konvalin said. Pierce was treated for bite injuries before being lodged at the Yolo County Jail on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and parole violations.
