Davis firefighters work the scene of an external building fire that broke out shortly before 5 p.m. Monday at the Davis Joint Unified School District’s corporation yard and Student Nutrition Services kitchen in the 1900 block of Fifth Street. Fire officials said the blaze occurred near an electrical panel, but it was unconfirmed whether that was the cause of the fire. Damage to the building was minimal, but about $10,000 worth of equipment being stored near the building was destroyed, fire officials said. No injuries were reported. School district personnel were at work Tuesday at the kitchen, running the summer meal program and fulfilling a contract with United Way’s California Capital Region office. The facilities and operations offices are closed and phone service is not available, a district spokeswoman said. To contact the office, visit www.djusd.net/facilities. Sue Cockrell/Enterprise photo
