Two UC Davis firefighters sustained minor injuries Friday while battling a structure fire in Dixon, according to UCD’s Dateline news service.

Both were treated for their injuries at Sutter Davis Hospital and released, UCD Fire Chief Nate Trauernicht said. Their names were not released.

The UCD fire crew was providing aid to the Dixon Fire Department, which responded to a two-story apartment building fire late Friday afternoon, Dateline reported. Firefighters from Woodland and Winters also responded.

Trauernicht told Dateline that the two UCD firefighters were pulling down the ceiling to gain access to flames in the attic when a large section of ceiling fell onto them, having been weighed down by water that other firefighters were spraying into that area.

“Injuries resulting from the collapse sent (the campus firefighters) to Sutter Davis later in the evening,” Trauernicht said. “Both were treated and released with minor injuries that will keep them off work at least five days.”
