A dispute over a hotel bill escalated into an alleged crime at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the University Park Inn, 1111 Richards Blvd., Davis police reported.
After a clerk accused a man of trying to leave without paying for his room, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife from his sock and attempted to stab the clerk. He was not injured.
The man and a female companion fled the scene gray Toyota sedan, which was later revealed to be a rental vehicle, said Davis police Sgt. James MacNiven. The male suspect was described being 30 to 40 years old, standing 6 feet tall with a medium build. He has tattoos on his neck, arms and legs.
No description was available for the female suspect, police said.
MacNiven said the search for the pair continues.
