Residents of a South Davis condominium were displaced Wednesday when a fire damaged their home.

Davis Fire Department Capt. Emily Lo said investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze, which was reported shortly before 6 p.m. in the 4000 block of Chiles Road.

“There was heavy smoke and fire” when crews arrived on scene, though the flames were quickly knocked down and contained, Lo said. Firefighters were able to rescue three cats and a tarantula from the home, but a pet snake perished.

The condo’s residents were not at home when the fire occurred, but one who later arrived on scene was transported to Sutter Davis Hospital for treatment of an unspecified condition, Lo said.

Red Cross workers were summoned to provide assistance to the residents while they are displaced, Lo said.
