Davis police arrested the same man twice on Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted several people for no apparent reason.
Chad Joseph Patterson, 32, was released on a citation following his initial arrest, but later found himself in a Yolo County Jail cell, Deputy Police Chief David Delaini said.
Patterson first came to officers’ attention shortly before 7 p.m., when a clerk at the Gas & Shop on Chiles Road reported that he heard a woman screaming for help, and when he walked outside to investigate, a man ran up to him and punched him in the face.
The man then fled but didn’t go far, and was still in the area when officers arrived on scene. They brought the man — identified as Patterson — back to the scene, where the clerk identified him and placed him under citizen’s arrest, Delaini said.
Cited at the police station and released with a notice to appear in court, Patterson made his way to the 4500 block of Alhambra Drive “and attacked a woman sitting on a bench minding her own business,” Delaini said. He also allegedly assaulted two men who came to the woman’s aid before finally being detained.
The more violent nature of that incident earned Patterson a trip to the Woodland jail, where he was booked on suspicion of battery causing great bodily injury as well as simple battery, Delaini said.
