A Davis man faces robbery and other charges stemming from an alleged shoplifting incident that went awry, police said.
Lt. Glenn Glasgow said officers were summoned at about 6:45 p.m. Friday to the Safeway store on West Covell Boulevard regarding a fight involving multiple people.
“As officers were responding, it was determined that loss prevention personnel from Safeway were attempting to detain a shoplifter,” Glasgow said. The suspect, who allegedly took alcohol from the store without paying, tried to flee and was combative when confronted.
The man, identified as 51-year-old Eddie Clarence Triplett, was arrested and lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of robbery, burglary, theft with prior convictions and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, Glasgow said.
