New Year’s Eve ‘mellow’ in Davis

Minus one fight in which a man suffered minor injuries, New Year’s Eve went off without a hitch in Davis.

Overnight, no one was ticketed for driving under the influence, public intoxication or a noise complaint by city or campus police. A Tuesday morning report of shots fired turned up nothing.

“Last night, considering the date, was moderately mellow,” said Cpl. Trevor Edens of the Davis Police Department.

The lone incident of note: a fight that began during a party that spilled out onto the street on the 1500 block of Drake Drive.

Neighbors phoned police, who found a 21-year-old Suisun City man who apparently had been struck on the forehead with a bottle during a fight between two groups of men. He was treated at Sutter Davis Hospital, but no one present would tell officers what happened or describe the assailants, who left before police arrived, Edens said.

Police planned extra patrols in Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland for New Year’s Eve, as well as a DUI checkpoint in Woodland. Initial arrest information for those efforts, outside of Davis, and from the California Highway Patrol were not yet available.
