An 80-year-old Sacramento man was killed Wednesday when his vehicle ran off Highway 16 near the town of Madison, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness to the accident reported that Robert Raymond Azevedo “appeared to be unconscious” as his eastbound PT Cruiser drifted into the oncoming lane, then ran off the north side of the road, shortly before 3 p.m. The vehicle grazed a telephone pole and came to rest on its side.
Azevedo was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy conducted Thursday concluded he died of blunt-force injuries but did not reveal whether he had suffered a medical event prior to the crash, Yolo County Chief Deputy Coroner Gina Moya said.
