Violence marred a Madison quinceañera party Saturday night, leaving six people hospitalized with stabbing injuries and one person in custody, according to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel Portugal, an 18-year-old Madison resident, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Yolo Superior Court in connection with the incident, which occurred at about 10:30 p.m. at the Madison Town Hall.
“It appears he was an uninvited guest” to the party, where more than 100 people had gathered to celebrate a girl’s 15th birthday, sheriff’s Capt. Dale Johnson said Monday. For reasons that remain under investigation, a dispute broke out that left six people with stab wounds ranging from minor to serious in severity.
All six had been discharged as of Monday, Johnson said, noting that some of the victims were security personnel who had attempted to subdue Portugal during the altercation. The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
Portugal is being held in lieu of $135,000 bail at the Yolo County Jail, booked there Saturday night on six counts of assault with a deadly weapon, Johnson said.
