WOODLAND — Closing arguments are expected to begin today in the monthlong trial of a Woodland woman accused of killing her husband last year.
Susan Kathleen Hoskins, 60, is charged with murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm in connection with the Aug. 3, 2014, fatal shooting of Bryan Hoskins Sr. in the couple’s Knollwood Drive condominium.
Hoskins has pleaded not guilty, claiming she was the victim of ongoing domestic violence and feared for her life at the time of the shooting. Two mental-health experts testified on her behalf last week, saying she had suffered chronic abuse and that her actions were consistent with someone experiencing intimate partner battering.
Yolo County prosecutors, who allege that Hoskins pulled the trigger out of frustration with her troubled marriage, spent Friday and Tuesday calling rebuttal witnesses in the case — former neighbors and co-workers who spoke positively of Bryan Hoskins’ character. His son, Bryan Hoskins Jr., was scheduled to take the witness stand today.
Jurors were then slated to hear deliberation instructions and closing arguments from attorneys in the case, which is being heard by Yolo Superior Court Judge David Reed.
