California Highway Patrol officers arrested four people Saturday following a vehicle pursuit near the busy Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland.
The chase began shortly before 6:30 p.m. when officers conducting maximum-enforcement patrols on Gibson Road near the fairgrounds, where the Yolo County Fair was underway, attempted a vehicle stop for a seatbelt violation, according to the CHP.
Instead of pulling over, however, the driver allegedly led police — including the CHP and backup from the Woodland Police Department and Yolo County Sheriff’s Office — on a nearly 2-mile pursuit through several residential neighborhoods that reached moderate speeds.
Three males reportedly ran from the vehicle when the chase ended on Fifth Street north of Gum Avenue, but the driver, identified as 21-year-old Oscar Morales of Woodland, was detained near the scene.
Two others — Luis Morales, 20; and a 16-year-old boy, also from Woodland — were arrested on suspicion of resisting police at the home of an acquaintance, a 17-year-old boy who now faces aiding and abetting charges, the CHP reported.
Oscar Morales was lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of felony evading, drunken driving and driving without a license, according to the CHP. It was not immediately clear whether he and Luis Morales are related.
