A 63-year-old Woodland woman was killed Sunday morning after her vehicle was broadsided by a truck at a rural Yolo County intersection.
Authorities say Sheri Lynn Reed was at the wheel of a westbound 2007 Ford Taurus that had stopped at the intersection of County Roads 25A and 98 before pulling into the path of the Ford F250, which was northbound and not required to stop at the intersection.
The 9:20 a.m. collision sent both vehicles off the roadway and into a tomato field, where Reed was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol. Her two passengers, identified as Woodland residents Gurveer Deol, 24; and Parker Kurtz, 83; escaped without significant injuries.
The driver of the Ford truck, 84-year-old Nelson Johansen of Woodland, was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, the CHP reported.
Located southwest of Woodland, the intersection was closed for about an hour following the crash. Officers continue to investigate, but the CHP noted that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
