The random assault of a motorcyclist led to the arrest of a Davis man early Tuesday morning, police said.
Lt. Ton Phan said the incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. at Fifth and L streets as the victim sat on his motorcycle. The suspect then fled, but drove by the area later as the victim was talking with an officer he had flagged down.
The officer stopped the suspect — identified as 30-year-old Konrad Peter Mathesius — and cited him for assault, Phan said. He and the victim did not know one another, he added.
