Emergency personnel in Woodland came to the rescue of a construction worker who was injured Tuesday morning in an underground pipe.
Woodland Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Sander said firefighters were summoned shortly after 8:30 a.m. to the area of County Roads 117 and 22 — the construction site for the Woodland/Davis Clean Water Project — where the worker was injured at the bottom of a cofferdam (a watertight enclosure) 40 feet underground.
Sander said the 38-year-old man had been working at the bottom of the cofferdam when he was struck in the back by a metal object that had fallen 25 to 40 feet from above.
“Due to the location of the injured worker, crews had to package the injured worker and set up safety rope systems and use a large construction crane on site to remove the worker from the bottom of the cofferdam,” Sander said.
The man was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento and was reported to be in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Sander.
