Yolo County sheriff’s deputies arrested two Woodland men Monday following a vehicle pursuit that also involved the California Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Matt Davis said the chase began at about 2:50 p.m. when a deputy observed a car traveling recklessly through a rural Woodland intersection. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle’s lights and siren, but the suspect failed to yield and instead attempted to flee on Interstate 5 north of Woodland.

The chase continued into the northern city limits, where a passenger jumped from the vehicle near Aspen Street and Kentucky Avenue, Davis said. But the driver continued to flee on I-5, with officers from both the Sheriff’s Office and CHP losing sight of the car near East Main Street and Highway 113.

They got a break, however, when a resident of the 1800 block of Blowers Street in Woodland called authorities to report the car in their neighborhood, Davis said. Officers, including Woodland police, established a perimeter in the area and arrested the suspected driver several blocks away from the abandoned car.

David Gomez, 25, was arrested on suspicion of felony evasion, while his passenger Marco Medina, also 25, faces charges for drug possession and an outstanding warrant, Davis said.
