Two men were arrested on counts of auto theft and possession of methamphetamine in the parking lot of the Motel 6 on 4835 Chiles Rd. at 11:15 p.m. Friday night.

While patrolling the area, officers noticed a car parked in a handicapped parking space without a placard. Before making contact with the vehicle, officers ran the license plates and discovered it was reported stolen from Sacramento earlier that day.

As officers made arrests on Michael Dunlap, a 38-year-old man from Rancho Cordova, and Timothy Pugh, 39, for the stolen vehicle, they discovered methamphetamine on both men. 7.7 grams of methamphetamine — a larger-than-usual amount, about the size of a golf ball — were found in total, Powell said. Pugh was also found in possession of a concealed dirk-style dagger.

A search of the vehicle revealed two methamphetamine pipes, burglary tools and a stolen checkbook as well, Powell said.

Both men are now housed in the Yolo County jail and the stolen vehicle was towed back to Sacramento where it was returned to its owner.
