Two people were injured Thursday in separate vehicle crashes, Davis police reported Friday.
The first occurred at 7:25 a.m. in West Davis, where an unidentified male juvenile driving a Toyota Rav4 southbound on Arlington Boulevard made a left turn onto Calaveras Avenue without checking for oncoming traffic, Lt. Tom Waltz said.
An Acura traveling on Calaveras Avenue broadsided the Toyota, causing it to overturn onto its left side, Waltz said. The Acura’s driver, 26-year-old Erick Martinez-Villegas of West Sacramento, was treated for chest, abdomen and back pain at Sutter Davis Hospital.
Later on Thursday, a 35-year-old Davis man was injured after being struck by a vehicle on Hanover Drive.
Waltz said the driver of a Honda Accord, 19-year-old Yenchun Chen of Davis, was looking down at his cell phone while driving in the 1800 block of Hanover and hit a parked Honda Civic, pushing it forward into Yared Berhane, a pedestrian.
“The parked vehicle dragged the pedestrian and caused severe damage to his right foot,” Waltz said. Berhane was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment.
That collision, which occurred at 12:20 p.m., is being investigated by the Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team, according to Waltz.
