An alleged daytime home burglary led to a high-speed chase, a crash and the arrest of two people on multiple felony charges, Davis police said.
The drama unfolded at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, when a resident of Oakenshield Road in West Davis arrived home to find an unfamiliar vehicle in front of the house and the front door open, prompting a call to the police, Lt. Tom Waltz said.
As officers were responding to the scene, a man and a woman emerged from the side of the house, got into the waiting vehicle — a Dodge pickup — and left, Waltz said. Police set up a search perimeter and spotted the truck on northbound Lake Boulevard, then attempted a traffic stop on Denali Drive.
Instead of pulling over, however, the driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit that reached speeds of 80 to 100 mph on city streets, according to Waltz. When the chase reached Portage Bay Avenue West, however, the truck crashed into a parked vehicle.
Apparently uninjured, the driver and passenger fled from the crash on foot but soon were apprehended while trying to hide — the man in a hot tub at the Portage Bay Apartments, the woman in the 500 block of Lake Boulevard, Waltz said.
Police reported recovering property taken from the Oakenshield Road house out of the truck, which Waltz said had been reported stolen from Woodland.
Both suspects — identified as Woodland residents David Aaron Brown, 21, and Brittany Marie Montoya, 18 — were lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, burglary, resisting arrest and reckless evading.
