The Davis Fire Department is investigating the cause of an early-morning blaze that heavily damaged a South Davis home today.
No one was injured in the fire, which Fire Marshal Tim Annis said was discovered by the occupants, a family of four, at about 2:30 a.m. in the 5200 block of El Cemonte Avenue.
“They were woken up by the noise of the fire,” which was focused largely around the garage and adjacent laundry room of the home, Annis said.
The family was able to safety evacuate the burning house, with one resident attempting to control the flames with a fire extinguisher and garden hose until fire crews arrived.
A total of 23 fire personnel responded to the scene, bringing the blaze under control at about 3:50 a.m., Annis said. There were reports of explosions coming from the garage area, which Annis said were due to vehicle gas tanks and aerosol cans that ruptured from the heat exposure.
The family had two cats, one of which was found unharmed while the other was still missing this morning, though firefighters found no indication that the animal was in the house, Annis said.
