Two Sacramento teens were able to free themselves from a car that rolled into the Sacramento River on Monday night, but one of them is now facing drunken-driving charges, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers said 18-year-old Manuel Segura is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, which prevented him from maintaining control of his vehicle as he drove along the River Road in the West Sacramento area at about 8:30 p.m.
Segura’s car went down an embankment and rolled into the river, but Segura and his passenger were able to get out of the vehicle and climb onto dry land before becoming submerged, Officer Joelle McChesney said. Both were taken to the UC Davis Medical Center with minor injuries, where Segura was arrested before being released to hospital staff.
