A Davis woman has changed her plea to not guilty by reason of insanity in connection with the alleged drowning death of her 5-year-old daughter last fall.
Aquelin Crystal Talamantes entered the plea during a brief appearance Friday in Yolo Superior Court, where a preliminary hearing in a separate case involving an alleged assault on two Yolo County Jail correctional officers was postponed until March 19, according to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.
The homicide case is due back in court on Friday for further proceedings. Authorities say Talamantes drowned her daughter, Tatiana Garcia, at the family’s Glide Drive home on Sept. 26, 2013, then drove to a relative’s apartment in Sacramento with the girl’s body in the trunk of her car.
A reported scuffle between Talamantes and two jail correctional officers on Feb. 14 resulted in a separate case charging the 29-year-old woman with battery on a correctional officer and resisting arrest, to which Talamantes has pleaded not guilty.
