Today began on a high note for a Davis fire crew, which got to welcome a new life into the world.
The crew responded shortly before 12:30 a.m. to reports of a woman in labor in the parking lot of the Nugget grocery store in South Davis. The full-term baby boy — the mother’s third child — already was delivered by the time they arrived, and they assisted in cutting the umbilical cord after an ambulance arrived on scene, Fire Department spokeswoman Evelyn George said.
The baby and the parents, who are from Dixon, were transported in the ambulance to Sutter Davis Hospital for follow-up care, and a firefighter drove the family’s vehicle to the hospital, George said.
