A driver whose sport-utility vehicle caught fire on Interstate 80 near Davis on Friday night escaped injury, but the car was a total loss, according to the Davis Fire Department.
Division Chief Bruce Fry said fire crews responded at about 10 p.m. to the blaze, which occurred east of the Mace Boulevard exit. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Angela Conner of West Sacramento, who drove past the scene, made the following observation in an email to The Enterprise: “It was such a huge blaze we could see the flames over the cars in front of us. As we drove past, we could feel the heat (from) three car lanes away.”
